Ukraine’s First Ever 3D Printed Building Is a School in Lviv

3D printing is among the most exciting modern construction technologies. Its versatility is reshaping the construction industry and inspiring new possibilities for the future of the building. Today, this technology is finding its way into Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts.

Amid Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine faces grave challenges. More than 2,000 schools lie damaged or destroyed, with 277 demolished, as per the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. To rebuild, humanitarian foundation Team4UA and Denmark’s 3DCP Group are together using COBOD’s BOD2 printer to build a primary school in Lviv, Ukraine. This pioneering use of 3D printing aims to accelerate school construction, setting the stage for Ukraine’s broader reconstruction efforts in housing and essential infrastructure.

Ukraine’s First Ever On-Site 3D Printed Building

This school will be Ukraine’s first-ever 3D-printed building. It is being built on the existing school premises and will be a one-story, 370-meter-square building. Another interesting fact is that 90% of the materials used in its construction are produced locally, boosting the economy and community.


This effort to construct Ukraine’s first 3D-printed building reflects resilience, ensuring a nurturing environment and a brighter future for kids. It signifies a pivotal moment in reconstruction, setting an example of using advanced technology to address societal challenges. The rapid creation of this school, along with its eco-friendly methods and local material use, highlights 3D printing’s power to quickly revive communities and support education.

Jean-Christophe Bonis, founder, and chairman of the Team4UA humanitarian foundation talked about the initiative of and giving the younger generation a proper education. He says “The school construction project based on 3D printing technology is designed to provide access to education for children affected by the full-scale war in Ukraine, as well as to create an inclusive space for internally displaced children in Lviv.

“Destroyed schools and other educational institutions deprive the younger generation of the opportunity to receive a quality education, which can hurt their future and the future of the state. Innovative solutions will help to overcome this problem right now, more efficiently and much faster – just see how much has been done here in just 3-4 days of printing. Virtually half of the printing is already complete,” he added.
