Autodesk has released AutoCAD for Mac 2024, packed with new features, commands, and system variables that promise to enhance user experience and streamline workflow processes. The release brings collaboration and performance enhancements with Apple’s M-Series chips. Furthermore, AutoCAD for Mac 2024 and AutoCAD LT for Mac 2024 will now run natively on Intel and Apple silicon architectures, including M1 and M2 chips.

What’s new in AutoCAD for Mac 2024
In the 2023 release, users were introduced to commands like COUNT, COUNTAREA, COUNTLIST, TRACE, TRACEBACK, and more. With this update, Autodesk is bringing COPYFROMTRACE, FADEMARKUP, and system variables like AUTOPLACEMENT, COMMENTHIGHLIGHT, TRACEVPSUPPORT, and more.

It’s exciting to see how customers can now take full advantage of the latest hardware and M-series chips for faster ways to work.”
New features in AutoCAD for Mac 2024
- Apple Silicon Support: AutoCAD for Mac 2024runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon architectures. Users will notice significant performance boost on Apple Silicon machines.
- Support for Italian and Spanish languages: Two new languages, Italian and Spanish, have been added alongside English, French, German, Japanese, and Korean.
- Markup Import and Markup Assist: These features use machine learning to identify markups and provide users with a way to view and insert drawing revisions with minimum manual effort.
- Smart Blocks Placement: New smart block functionality offers placement suggestions based on where that block was previously placed.

Furthermore, AutoCAD is now compatible with SpaceMouse Enterprise/Pro/Pro Wireless/Compact/Wireless, allowing users to change model view.
Autodesk has also made improvements to Trace environment. They have added the COPYFROMTRACE command which enables users to copy objects from trace into their drawings. All of these features are available in both AutoCAD for Mac and LT.

Commands
- COPYFROMTRACE: Objects from trace can be copied into drawings
- FADEMARKUP / -FADEMARKUP: Adjust fade on markups for better visibility on a trace
- MARKUPASSIST / -MARKUPASSIST: Analyzes an imported markup and can help place text callouts and revision clouds faster and with less manual effort
- MARKUPIMPORT / -MARKUPIMPORT: Marked-up drawing (image/pdf) can be imported into your DWG as a new trace
The COPYFROMTRACE command is also available in AutoCAD LT.
System Variables
- AUTOPLACEMENT: Determines if placement suggestions appear while inserting a block
- COMMENTHIGHLIGHT: Controls the display of indicator badge on PDF text comments
- MARKUPASSISTMODE: Controls whether identified markups are highlighted or not
- MARKUPPAPERDISPLAY: Shows whether a digital markup is active or not
- MARKUPPAPERTRANSPARENCY: Control transparency level of an active digital markup
- TRACEMARKUPFADECTL: Faded markups transparency can be controlled using this variable
- TRACEVPSUPPORT: Controls whether markup boxes are actionable within a currently active model space viewport
AUTOPLACEMENT is also available in AutoCAD LT.
Also, Selection (Fence, Lasso, Polygon), Paper space support, TrueType font support, Line weights, Locked layer dimming, Xref dimming, General stability, visual fidelity, and performance improvements have been made to the Shaded (Fast) and Shaded with Edges (Fast) visual styles in AutoCAD.
2D graphics system was also treated with improvements to TrueType font display quality, Pan performance, display performance, and layout switching.
