Welcome back! In our previous post, we talked about mobile apps for design engineers and how well they’re working on the go. Engineers are able to record their ideas, view designs and even access libraries, depending on the various apps and their abilities.
Today, we are going to continue talking about several more apps that are most popular for design engineers.
eDrawings
This app is great for mechanical CAD design services. Users can view designs, parts, drawing files, assemblies and more! You’re also able to activate a camera to use so that bringing virtual 3D designs into real context is possible! Created by SolidWorks, this app is available through iOS and Android.
There is also another version of this app, eDrawings Professional, that can help with reviewing, offering feedback and exporting for 3D printing.
SketchUp Mobile Viewer
Great for interior, civil, mechanical and architectural design, SketchUP offers a way to view and print models created in SketchUp. You’re able to explore, orbit and present 3D models, as well. This app is great for engineers who need to navigate models using innate multi-touch signals and camera menus to help with taking photos. The app can also be used for exporting 3D printing when uploaded to the desktop version. SketchUP Mobile Viewer is available on iOS and Android.
Autodesk 123D
According to asme.org, “Autodesk 123D is a family of free 3D apps linked together in the cloud. Using 123D Design, engineers can design their own products or parts and also view projects created by other 123D Design users, right in the app. Whether it is a building or part of a machine, engineers can turn their photos into realistic 3D models using 123D Catch by taking a series of photographs with an iPhone or iPad from different angles. After snapping photos on the phone and uploading to Autodesk Cloud, where the photos are transformed into a 3D model, they can then use the 123D Catch web app to edit the model or send for 3D printing. Autodesk’s online app, Tinkercad, also enables users to create and print 3D models.”
Are you using mobile apps to help with your design process? If so, which are your favorite? We’d love to know! If you missed our previous post, be sure to visit back with it by clicking here.
