The world has always been an interesting place for most of us. And if you happen to disagree with this statement, let us just take you through a little tour of the best civil engineering projects that have enthralled people more than ever. These structures are the one of the best structures on this planet. Let’s have a look at these structures. And yes, even the ancient structures did use technical methods (engineering). So, we will include those as well.
The Great Pyramid
The Great Pyramid is standing from more than 3800 years. Wow! It is located in Giza, Egypt. It is about 750 ft. long (base) and 450 ft. high. Do you know that The Great Pyramid has 2.3 million blocks of stones? It is said that around 30,000 workers have contributed in building this ancient structure. No wonder the structure remains to be one of the most-talked-about structure in the world.
The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China is another wonderful structure in the world. It was completed somewhere around 15-17th century. Many walls have been joined to make it a structure that we see today. The Great Wall of China holds a strategic importance in the military and trade. The length of ‘The Great Wall of China’ is around 8850 km. A way too long, isn’t it? If you were to walk along the wall from beginning to the end, covering a distance of 25km per day, then you would need 354 days approximately. So, almost a year to take the tour on the feet.
Aqueduct of Segovia
Aqueduct is a one great structure in the Spain that was constructed sometime around 50 A.D. This structure was built to transport water from a river to the city. The construction of Aqueduct is so accurate that it is used even today. Thanks to the efforts taken for the preservation. This structure has 167 arches that are taller than 29ft, and 75 arches that are single and 44 that are double. Quite ingenious!
Brooklyn Bridge
Brooklyn Bridge was constructed in 1883. As the name suggests the bridge is standing even today at Brooklyn, New York. It is a remarkable suspension-bridge with an impeccable demonstration of civil engineering. Brooklyn Bridge is the first steel-wire suspension bridge constructed. Thousands of people and vehicles cross this bridge each day. It’s an amazing view. You should go out and check if you have not been there yet, and it has no bridge toll.
Panama Canal
Panama Canal is a canal for ships that connects two major oceans: Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. The route is 48-mile long. Panama Canal was constructed by 15 August 1914. Although, there were many attempts previously, but none of them could successfully translate into a canal. More than 40,000 workers have contributed to this project.
It is known as one of the most difficult and largest projects in the engineering history. Without the canal, the ships had to take a tour all the way from the tip of South America. It was really long and painful for trade to commence. Panama Canal is a breakthrough in the history from the trading point of view. Tens of thousands of ships ferry through this route (4% of the world trade).
Being in the same industry, Team Indovance salutes to such contribution made to the world. We can understand how difficult it would have been to create such intellectual structures in the days where the word technology itself was rarely used. Optimum utilization of human resources, raw materials and the will to build something that will stay for hundreds of years is commendable and Team Indovance respects such thought-driven team of engineers of ancient days.
We believe they are the builders of future in true sense.
