BIM for Healthcare Construction

In the world of BIM, there’s a new technology that’s going to change the way we see models and designs. Using 3D glasses and a program called CAVE, a user can see a virtual model come to life. These are being used in healthcare to improve facilities and allow users to see a structure’s entryway doors, piping, doorways and more. The model moves with the user, so you’re able to virtually walk through an entire building. According to healthcaredesignmagazine.com, “It takes away the complexity of a BIM model and allows the average person—doctors, surgeons, healthcare facility managers—to be in a space and assess it, long before construction starts. They can then provide feedback on the design and layout, allowing changes to be made in the model as opposed to in the field, where it’s much more costly.” This is an interesting new technology that will allow users to do a virtual walk through of the BIM model. Until now, nothing like this has been available. Here’s why you should implement BIM in hospital construction Quantity takeoff / Quantifying and estimation BIM allows clients and professionals to detail material, labor, and other costs associated with the construction process. This way, they can make better scheduling and budgeting choices before beginning construction. Better coordination and collaboration between professionals BIM is a platform with multiple capabilities that enables subject-matter experts like architects, engineers, MEP professionals, and even clients and stakeholders to coordinate the process from start-to-finish. Informed decision making 3D BIM models enhance visualization of the project. This enables experts to carefully plan the construction process to avoid clashes or other mishaps. Parametric modelling Another feature that enhances visualization is parametric modelling, which is a process of creating and managing digital representations of the physical and functional characteristics of a building. These representations can be easily modified based on different parameters like dimensions and materials used. This allows architects, engineers, and other building professionals to design, simulate, and analyze a building’s performance in a virtual environment before construction begins. Better project management BIM’s capabilities allows streamlining and efficient management of all the phases of the construction process. Furthermore, all the project-related information can be documented on BIM itself and can be accessed any time. Hospital construction is something with several moving parts, there is a lot to consider and think about. BIM allows everyone involved in the project to collaborate and coordinate to get value and develop a stunning and secure structure. The system also uses drones. They’ll gather data on a daily basis to use within the virtual mock-up models. They’ll record the quality of the structure from wall paint to floor types and even steel structures and drywall. This technology is amazing and will really step the game up for BIM users. Even more, the drones will have the ability to inspect hard to reach areas that are in hospitals. Without this technology, it could take a long while to inspect the 30th floor of a building that might require a crane to reach. The drones will capture photos of the building’s hard to reach areas while in construction and then after, so that inspectors can use the software to virtually walk though and check things out! Also according to healthcaredesignmagazine.com, “3-D printers are being used to produce physical models that help owners visualize their buildings or specific building components. With 3-D printing, construction teams can create laser-accurate building components of any shape and size with pinpoint accuracy so they can be prefabricated offsite and more easily assembled on a project site for a faster, more cost-effective construction process. For example, there’s tremendous value in creating a physical scalable model of two steel elements of a building to show exactly how they’ll fit together.” This shouldn’t surprise us, as technology in this industry keeps getting better and better! We can’t wait to see how this program changes the functionality and quality of healthcare facilities in the coming months! Most Commonly Used 3D CAD Software File Types

Most Commonly Used 3D CAD Software File Types

Today, there are several CAD software file types, each representing data in different file formats. The file type you will create in your project depends on the type of CAD software you are using. While some programs allow for conversion of files to the format their application accepts, it’s good to know about the different types so you can manage them better. Here are the most used file types in 3D modeling, CAD software programs and our drafting services firm. Keep in mind that while a program may support one file type, a module within that program may support a separate one. It depends on what type of file it is and what information it will need to produce. For example, the assemblies module in PTC Creo supports the .asm format, while the part module uses the .prt extension. Widely used 3D CAD software file types Autodesk features some of then most popular software packages on the market. It supports the following file formats: .dwf Used for 2D modeling, the dwf stands for “design web format.” It is highly compressed, so the size is smaller and more easily manageable and sharable. .dwg This binary file is used to save and manage 2D and 3D designs. It is the native format for many CAD programs, so it can be used across different platforms. .dxf The “drawing interchange format” is a text file that allows for data to be exchanged between AutoCAD and other programs. It’s been around since 1982 and is compatible with most other software. It is considered a neutral file format because of its compatibility. .acis This file type is part of a 3D modeling kernel used for 3D modeling, management and visualization. It supports two file types: standard ACIS Text (SAT) and Standard ACIS Binary (SAB). The SAT files are ASCII files that can be viewed with a text editor. SAB files are not meant to be readable because of their small size. .bmp Known beyond the drafting industry as a bitmap file format, this type is for raster image files. It is the file format of choice for Windows operating systems and is compatible with most other programs. .3ds This file format is used for 3D modeling, specifically Autodesk’s Max 3D modeling, animation and rendering software. Autodesk is the developer of AutoCAD. .ipt An Inventor Part File, this format is used in Inventor, an Autodesk program for designing 3D prototypes. It can be combined with other parts in assembly files. PTO Creo, formerly known as Pro/ENGINEER is another popular choice among drafting and design professionals. The software supports these file formats: .igs The Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (IGES) file format is a neutral data file that can be used within several different types of CAD programs to display technical information. It was developed so that exchanging files among programs would be easier. .stp The Standard for the Exchange of Product model data, or STEP, is the name of this type of file, which is used for 3D models. It was developed because there was a need to save more complex information about a product design. It can contain information about the entire life cycle of the design. It’s used in many different industries. However, having multiple CAD file types can also create challenges for collaboration between different software programs or users, as the different file formats may not be compatible with each other. This is why interoperability between different CAD software programs is often an important consideration for users. Follow Indovance Inc for AEC Industry Updates and Global Construction News. CAD: Peeking into Past and Future

CAD (Computer-Aided Design) is all about designing 2D or 3D models of various physical objects that we see around us. These physical objects could be just anything, as simple as a box, or can be a complicated machine. You may not realize, but there will be a lot of structures, machines, and appliances that you see every day that are made with the help of CAD. So, how did things work before CAD? It was a little complicated, or I would say a bit tedious. Everything was on paper; all the sketching was in 2D. And a prototype was developed many times. The prototype had to undergo all the tests and validations before it was finalized. Ah, god bless those designers and engineers. But, such practices aren’t any more prevalent, thanks to the CAD system. And not just us, there are many people who are thanking the CAD system. This is because CAD has allowed prototyping so fast and less complicated. And testing and analyzing of the prototype can be done simultaneously. This process can be done with various conditions and simulations. Well, this is amazing. A Plethora of new designs can be created using CAD. But, do you know that CAD can help in the optimization of older and existing designs as well? Not just optimization, you can even enhance the performance. When companies started realizing the importance of CAD, it was like a boom. What did they exactly realize? They understood that a prototype can be developed for any object and all the conditions can be tested. So, they could check if there was any problem that was about to occur with the model. And they would make the changes accordingly. This would save a lot of money as compared to the earlier scenario. The companies had found their Holy Grail. Let us go backward and see how the CAD system developed. CAD started with cave paintings. No, of course not. Sometime around 1950, the first ever CAD system made its entry into the industry. It was originally developed for U.S. Air Force, and this was a graphic air defense system. In the 1960s, as the technology got more advanced, 2D geometry and calculations could be performed with CAD. This is exactly when CAD became an important instrument for drafting applications. In the 1980s, CAD was introduced on personal computers, meaning it had a wider reach. This was a breakthrough in itself. A decade later, the application of CAD systems was introduced in other industries as well. Until now, it was engineering that made use of the CAD system. But, Architecture started to make use of CAD systems, and it was a remarkable change in the architecture industry. And this is how we have reached here. It has been a great journey. Future of CAD This was the past, and we are also curious about the future, aren’t we? We have heard about virtual reality. And yes, there are high chances of virtual reality and CAD getting integrated. If both technologies are integrated, it is going to be a major achievement for the industry. CAD is a highly powerful weapon. If CAD could integrate virtual reality and artificial intelligence together, CAD will be one of the most sought-after technologies. And it will be open to many other arenas as well. The level of sophistication and receptiveness of the CAD will be enhanced. CAD may even be incorporated with knowledge structures that will have better problem-solving approaches as an inbuilt ability that takes care of regular consistencies. Advanced tools will further facilitate real-time collaboration between geographically dispersed teams. Cloud-based platforms will enable designers to work on the same project simultaneously, making changes, and providing feedback in real-time. These tools will not only enhance productivity but also foster creativity through collective brainstorming and knowledge sharing. Moreover, virtual reality and augmented reality will enable immersive design reviews, where stakeholders can visualize and interact with 3D models, leading to a more intuitive and efficient design process. Regenerative design, on that is adaptable and resilient, will be the cornerstone of the future of CAD. Today, more and more designers are recognizing the importance of creating flexible and responsive designs that can adapt to changing needs and circumstances. By embracing adaptable design, CAD will empower designers to create solutions that can evolve with the demands of a rapidly changing world, fostering resilience and sustainability in the face of climate change. The applications of CAD are used in various arenas. Therefore, many firms need CAD support. Indovance is one of the top outsourcing firms for CAD support.
